Communications Planning
Our work together starts by looking at your organization’s strategic plan. Based on your priorities, I will develop a communications plan you can use as a roadmap. It is a living, dynamic document that guides you through key strategies and activities to help your organization meet its objectives. It also identifies ways to evaluate your work so you can adjust, and course correct along the way. I can also help implement a portion or the entire communications plan, based on your needs.
Creating a Communications Team
Are you looking to build a communications team but now sure where to start? I’ve seen many not-for-profit organizations struggle with this once they realize their organization needs more than a newsletter. Successful organizations, regardless of size, need a communications function, even if that’s just one person. We focus on understanding your business, your target audiences and how to most effectively engage with them to meet their needs and your objectives. We then build a function with the right skill set.
Content Development
Carving out time to write can feel like a luxury. Yet, creating good content that drives engagement between you and your audiences is more important than ever. I will develop content that engages your audiences. The process involves:
- Reviewing and understanding your business, brand, key audiences and objectives;
- Analyzing your current and potential platforms;
- Building the content strategy and the content calendar;
- Writing compelling stories and content that drives stakeholders to act;
- Optimizing and promoting the content across all your platforms;
- Evaluating, reviewing and adjusting as necessary.
Project Management
Whether it is a rebranding exercise, a special project, an annual conference for 100 or 1000 or a national campaign, all projects start with a clear articulation of the objectives and your stakeholder needs. Understanding the big picture and managing the details are part of good project management. I lead projects with a focus on planning, clear, consistent and regular communications, while being mindful of your organization’s reputation and risks.
Media Relations
Although the media landscape has shifted significantly, earned media (vs paid, shared and owned media) is still a viable medium that can be used to extend your organization’s reach and position your organization as a leader. News media are interested in stories that have a real purpose and that their audiences want or need in order to make a decision or to act. I will craft narratives that resonate and contribute to positive media coverage.
